Embassy of Spain in the United States

The Embassy is not the counter. Passports, NIE numbers, powers of attorney and visas are handled by the Consular Section, in the same building but with its own phone, email and page.

The Embassy of Spain in Washington represents the Spanish State before the US Government. It sits at 2375 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, two blocks from the State Department, and is headed by Ambassador Ángeles Moreno Bau.

The building houses the diplomatic chancery, the Consular Section and eight attaché offices: trade, finance, labour and migration, education, agriculture, home affairs, the liaison magistrate and defence (the latter on Wisconsin Avenue). The Cultural Office is separate, in the former residence on 16th Street.

The Embassy publishes no public opening hours: any procedure starts by email.

What the Embassy does and what the Consular Section does

The Embassy is the political representation: bilateral relations, trade, culture, cooperation and defence. There is one per country, in the capital.

The Consular Section does the work of a consulate general for the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina: passports, civil registry, notary, NIE numbers and residence visas. Its phone is (202) 728-2330 and its email [email protected].

If you live in New York or Miami, neither the Embassy nor its Consular Section is your office: the split goes by state.
